About NumeralQ

A homeowner renovation intelligence platform — locally-adjusted cost data, transparent methodology, and decision support for every stage of a project.

NumeralQ was built around a simple observation: homeowners starting a renovation project have almost no reliable local cost information. National averages are too broad to be useful. Contractor quotes come only after you've already started a relationship. And most online estimates are designed to generate leads, not to inform decisions.

What NumeralQ Is

NumeralQ is a renovation intelligence platform for homeowners. We provide free, locally-adjusted cost estimates for major home improvement projects — calibrated to your specific city's labor market, not a national average that could be off by 30% or more.

Our goal is to give homeowners accurate information before they talk to contractors, request quotes, or explore financing options. When you know what a project should cost in your market, you're in a fundamentally better position at every stage of the project lifecycle.

Our platform supports four things homeowners need: understanding realistic cost ranges for their market, comparing contractor bids against local benchmarks, planning project financing with realistic monthly estimates, and making project decisions with confidence rather than guesswork.

Our Mission

We provide free, locally-adjusted cost estimates with no account required, no obligation to request a quote, and no hidden catch. The information we publish is designed to help homeowners — not to funnel them into decisions they wouldn't otherwise make.

This means we're transparent about where our estimates have limits, we explain our methodology in plain language, and we don't inflate or deflate estimates to serve any particular outcome. A homeowner who gets three contractor bids and finds that our range was accurate is a success. A homeowner who uses our estimates to challenge an unreasonably high bid is also a success.

How Our Cost Intelligence Works

Every estimate on NumeralQ is adjusted for the local market — not copy-pasted from a national average. We use city-specific multipliers that reflect local labor costs, contractor density, permit fees, and demand conditions. A roofing project in Houston costs meaningfully less than the same project in Boston or San Francisco, and our estimates reflect that difference precisely.

Our Project Cost Planner is scope-aware — it adjusts pricing based on what you tell us about your project. A single-room paint job is priced differently from a whole-home interior. Three windows are priced differently from a whole-home window replacement. These distinctions matter, and we model them explicitly.

Contractor Quote Support

Homeowners who want quotes can submit a request through the cost planner on any service or city page. NumeralQ helps connect homeowners with local contractors and home service professionals based on project type and location. This service is free for homeowners — we never charge for quote requests and require no commitment.

NumeralQ is an independent home project intelligence and referral platform. We do not perform contracting work, employ contractors, or guarantee workmanship, pricing, timelines, or project outcomes. NumeralQ may work with contractors, financing providers, marketplaces, or third-party service platforms to help facilitate homeowner project inquiries. Homeowners should independently verify licensing, insurance coverage, references, and contract terms with any contractor before authorizing work.

Financing Exploration

Major renovation projects frequently involve financing — and the quality of that financing decision depends heavily on having an accurate project estimate first. NumeralQ supports the financing exploration process by providing realistic monthly payment illustrations alongside every project estimate.

These illustrations use a consistent calculation model (approximate 60-month home improvement loan APR ranges) so homeowners can understand the monthly budget impact of a project before committing. They are educational tools — not loan offers, not pre-qualifications, and not promises about what a lender will provide.

NumeralQ is not a lender and does not issue financing of any kind. When homeowners want to explore actual financing options, we can connect them with independent third-party lending partners. See our financing guide and Financing Disclosure for complete details.

Market Research

Beyond individual project estimates, NumeralQ publishes ongoing market research on construction cost trends, regional pricing dynamics, material market conditions, and renovation ROI data. This research is intended for homeowners who want to understand the broader market context — whether that's understanding why roofing costs are elevated in their region, which markets show the strongest kitchen renovation ROI, or how climate zone affects HVAC system selection and pricing.

Editorial Integrity

Our cost data and editorial content are independent of contractor relationships and financing arrangements. We do not accept payment from contractors to alter our estimates. We do not suppress unfavorable data to protect partner relationships. Our estimates are what we believe to be accurate based on the best available market data — and we disclose our methodology so readers can evaluate that claim for themselves.

Where our estimates turn out to be wrong — which we acknowledge is possible in a market that changes continuously — we want to hear about it. Flagged data corrections go directly to our data team. See our contact page for how to submit a data question or correction.
